Actually a juniper, and not a true cedar, this species is an evergreen and is among my favorite woods to work with. The pleasing aroma while working with it, and the beautiful contrast between the lighter colored sapwood and the darker colored heartwood, not to mention the grain movement, all contribute to the pleasure of working with cedar. This particular form has a subtle area of stitching near the rim where a few branches of the same species and a fill of recycled coffee grounds is infused into an area damaged by insects.
