Acer negundo

This piece is 8” tall and 11” in diameter.

Commonly known as Box elder and also Manitoba Maple, this species is among my favorite to work with. The deepest reds seem to appear in trees growing in the humid climates of the southeastern U.S. The red pigmentation is produced by a natural defense mechanism in the tree which occurs when the tree is attacked by beetles who love to make homes in this species. These forms should be placed away from direct sunlight to preserve the red and pink colors indefinitely. The intense coloration of this piece gives it an edge of attraction.
