Known for the spiky little balls that litter front yards across the south, the Sweet Gum tree is rarely used for any sort of furniture making or cabinetry due to the unstable nature of the grain. This species, however, works wonderfully for lathe turned projects like this and this piece shows beautiful grain and has a great shape as well.
