This abstract is composed of 27 different pieces and 5 different species of trees; cherry, water oak, white oak, pin oak, Mesquite. This piece is the only abstract I have created so far that has the natural bark edge included in each individual piece.

Special care has to be taken while turning these pieces so that the bark remains intact. Each piece is individually sculpted on the lathe while the wood is still full of moisture. As each piece dries, they also moved naturally. After they are fully dry, they are finished with epoxy resin and in this abstract, a final coat of matte sheen varnish was applied to soften the look. The entire abstract installs collectively as one unit. This abstract measures 50” tall by 30” wide.
