This piece features several different species of trees. American elm, sweet gum, pecan and sourwood have cooperated well for this piece.

All things decay, and the overall color of this piece imitates the type of rust you see in some decaying things. I don’t know what it is, but rust has always held a sort of nostalgic appeal to me, remembering things that once were new and shiny but have seen the rust of time. But there in the middle, sometimes are evidences of new life as well, represented by the fresh black and clear smaller sourwood pieces. I have left a high gloss on these pieces to imitate the hope of new opportunities.
