This abstract is composed of 9 different pieces and 2 different types of trees. The large pieces are sweet gum, and the smaller ones are water oak. Each piece is 

individually sculpted on the lathe while the wood is still full of moisture and then the wood moves naturally as it dries out completely. After these pieces were fully dry, they were finished with epoxy resin and then the larger pieces were given a final coat of matte sheen varnish to soften the look while the smaller pieces were left with the high gloss look of the epoxy resin. The entire abstract installs collectively as one unit.
