This abstract is composed of 26 individual end grain sections of 3 different species of trees. American Elm, Sweet Gum, and American Pecan. Each piece is individually sculpted on the lathe while the wood is still wet. They are turned very thin and then allowed to dry naturally which also promotes some interesting movement during dry ing.  Elm is one of my favorite woods to turn in this way due to the way it moves after being turned thin. After fully drying, each piece is finished with multiple coats of epoxy resin, and in this abstract, a final coat of matte sheen varnish was applied to soften the look. The entire abstract installs collectively as one unit.

This piece measures 7’ wide by 38” tall.
